since sinai's flash

Since Sinai’s flash and veiling cloud
we have knelt and begged
Send someone else!
So Moses ascended
returned alight
And we named him Prophet
Freed thus from duty so to rise
Ourselves no prophets, see.
Since the shaft of light entered Mary
we have knelt and prayed
Thank you for sending someone else!
For Jesus rose to the mount
a light in darkness
And we named him God
Absolved thus from duty so to live
from healed flesh and spirit and world
Ourselves no gods, see.
Suns rise and set behind the peaks
and still the nimbus listens hopeful
for the sound of rising on the switchback
for the crunch of feet on flint.
